Keeping families together.

Family and Children's Association believes:

  • That the quality of tomorrow can be predicted by measuring the health of our children today.
  • That healthy lives are created by love, nurturing, food and shelter, education and guidance.
  • That all children deserve and need such gifts each day...first from their families, then from the community.

The agency seeks to assist such children by enabling their families to be whole again, especially when children are at risk of being separated from their parents due to crisis and other reasons.

The agency's mission, therefore, is to be always children-centered...and family focused.

All will be done to protect children from any kind of abuse and neglect and help their families to regain health and stability.

Family Ties does not discriminate because of race, creed, or national origin.

What is Family Ties?

Family Ties is a voluntary, preventive service program of Family and Children's Association. Our primary goal is to help families during periods of crisis to pull together so they can eliminate the risk of placing their children in foster care. This is achieved through a professional staff that provides confidential case management services intended to facilitate such services as:

  • crisis intervention
  • counseling
  • homemaking
  • day care
  • parent aides
  • parent training
  • educational assessment
  • job training
  • medical services
  • psychological services
  • health care
  • transportation
  • food and shelter
  • clothing

Eligibility

Families residing in Nassau County with children up to 18 years of age who are experiencing at least one of the following problems:

  • Parents or guardians whose ability to adequately care for their families are seriously impaired due to emotional, physical, mental or financial difficulties.
  • Children with special needs (physical, emotional or behavioral) which require intensive supportive and management services.
  • Parent or guardian who refuses to maintain the child in the home.

Referrals are officially accepted through the Information Referral and Resource Service (IRRS) of Nassau County Department of Social Services (516) 227-8472. Family Ties can assist families with this referral process.

Funding for Family Ties is provided through the Nassau County Department of Social Services and the support of the community.
