Family Center & HCBS Tuesday Night Parent Support Group*

Who: For parents of children with an emotional disturbance to come together to socialize, support, and network.

What: 8 session workshop in conjunction with the Nassau County District Attorney's (NCDA) office.

What: 12-session parenting education support group to educate participants about the negative impact of drug and alcohol abuse and/or addiction on the family.
When: Group meets on Tuesday nights from 6:00 – 7:00 pm or Thursday afternoons from Noon – 1:00 pm

Eligibility: Most participants have or have had addiction to alcohol and/or drugs; many have been referred by Child Protective Services, Department of Social Services or Family Court.

LICC Adult/Medical Issues

Who: Adults with chronic illness and mental health diagnosis.
When: Tuesday 2:15 – 3:45 pm bi-weekly

Group is for adults, who have a chronic illness as well as a mental health diagnosis. Members share both medical and emotional issues in a supportive environment. Topics include living with diabetes, high blood pressure, liver and heart problems.
LICC Anxiety Group

The purpose of this group is to assist clients with learning how to control their excessive and/or unproductive worry/anxiety. The program is divided into 12 components. In each group, clients will learn specific skills that will build on the prior skills.

This group includes adults who are diagnosed with mental illness and chemical dependency. We address harm reduction, symptoms of mental illness, coping with problems, relapse prevention and recovery. This group also offers a peer supported atmosphere where members can feel safe.

Mens Therapy Group will provide the opportunity for men to effectively discuss life issues in a safe environment. Men will be encouraged to share and process the identified topics. One goal of this group is to increase men’s comfort in discussing topics and issues that impacted their lives. Topics will include: effective communication, self-esteem, cultural diversity, family roles, boundaries and life changes.

The WSM group is for adults with chronic mental health issues and meets on a weekly basis. The program focuses on learning about recovery, making the best use of your mental and physical health services, learning how mental and physical wellness support personal recovery, staying well by decreasing symptoms, learning how to manage stress, and to prevent a relapse of symptoms.

The womens group is for women who are trying to better manage their lives with their children, significant other, co-workers and friends. They learn to overcome depression and anxiety by developing healthy communication styles, enhancing self-esteem and coping with stressful situations. The work begins by understanding how their past effects their present followed by changes that will improve the quality of their lives.

It is based on a commitment to achieve various goals in order reach a more satisfying level of emotional functioning and to prevent a regression to increased dysfunctional emotional symptoms. Group members participate by sharing experiences and coping styles, by identifying with aspects of each other’s lives, and by being able to give and receive support from one another.

The mental health relapse prevention group is an ongoing psychotherapy group for those who suffer from chronic and severe mental health issues. The group is designed for those who have demonstrated an ability to manage their symptoms effectively but now wish to work towards improving their quality of life. Group members participate by sharing their experiences and providing support from one another.

This coping skills group is an ongoing psychotherapy group for those who suffer from chronic and severe mental health issues. This group is designed for those who have demonstrated difficulty managing their symptoms effectively. This group provides members opportunities to identify ways they can prevent and/or cope with symptoms and problems.
LICC Adolescent Boys Group

Who: Boys, age 13-17 years
When: Monday 7 to 8 pm weekly
Where: 510 Hempstead Tpke, 2nd floor,
Focuses on boys who have had or have depressive symptoms with a CBT approach to learning coping skills, anger management, problem-solving, communication skills, etc. Also focuses on issues related to past trauma (abuse, witness to domestic violence) and conflicted relationships with family members, which all the members have these factors in common.

When: Saturday 12pm to 1pm weekly

Focuses on socializing, developing supports around family issues (separation, divorce, history of family violence), school difficulties (peer interactions, learning, coping with criticism). Besides verbal interactions we will have role playing (skits), board games and writing activities.
