What is HomeShare/Long Island?
- A program that links senior home owners who have extra room in their homes with adults who need an affordable place to live or a room to rent.
- A collaborative partnership with Family Service League, Intergenerational Strategies and Family and Children’s Association
Who is qualified to use this program?
- Nassau County home owners who are age 60 and older with a spare bedroom
- House seekers who are age 18 or older, employed and/or a student.

- Offers opportunity to negotiate services for rent

- Reduces financial burden

How does this program work?
- Interested parties contact the HomeShare/Long Island program coordinator at Family and Children’s Association.
- After a telephone consultation, an interview is scheduled. References will be requested and checked.
- A search for a suitable match is conducted and proposed.
- Parties are introduced, needs and limits are discussed, and you decide if the match is compatible.
- If the match is compatible, an agreement is signed.
- Family and Children’s Association will provide mediation, guidance, and follow-up to assure a smooth transition to successful shared housing.
Is there a fee for this service?
- Yes, there is a one-time non-refundable fee of $200 for both home owner and home seeker. This covers the cost of conducting background and reference checks and implementing the program.
- $50 is due at the time of the application.
- $150 is due at the time of the match.
