Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council is an essential part of the Village of Hempstead Initiative. Family and Children’s facilitates an opportunity for youth to serve as decision-makers, impact the Village positively, and broaden their perspective of the world
Mission
The purpose of the Council is to develop a team of young leaders, who would be recognized for their dedication to promoting youth leadership, service-learning, adult partnerships, political alliances and diversity.
Criteria
Students must attend Hempstead High School from grades 9-12. Hempstead High school teachers, Guidance, Team center, and Deans are encouraged to nominate youth. Youth can decide to join themselves or current members can recommend a student. The group should reflect students from all areas i.e. special education, advanced placement students, and student athletes.
- Youth must be able to commit time and energy to specific projects.
- They will participate in leadership training.
- The group will work collaboratively with the village trustees, and the Mayor of Hempstead.
- They will be responsible for developing projects (action plans) to improve the Village of Hempstead.
- Members must attend scheduled meetings.
Council members who complete civic responsibilities and who have a financial need are eligible for to apply for our Scholarship Fund for college or trade school assistance.
