Vulnerable Seniors
For many seniors, the “golden years” are not so bright. Fixed incomes, unexpected expenses, a faltering economy, limited mobility and loss of independence contribute to tough times for our most vulnerable neighbors.
Part of the Family
Here at Family & Children’s, believe seniors are an important part of the Long Island family. We assist over 10,000 senior citizens each year whether they are in their own homes, nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Our staff and volunteers provide services and counseling on complicated issues that affect the lives of seniors and help to foster independence and well-being in the clients we serve.
We offer oversight for nursing/assisted living care, referrals to appropriate community resources, assistance with accessing entitlements and benefits for which they qualify, and a variety of counseling services on such important issues as financial counseling, health insurance, reverse mortgages, affordable housing alternatives and bill paying.
Guidance You Can Trust
Seniors can count on Family & Children’s to provide secure, safe and trustworthy advice on the significant issues that affect their quality of life.
How You Can Help
Become a volunteer! If you have time, we could use your help in a variety of ways. You can: make phone calls to isolated seniors, become an Ombudsperson and provide oversight for nursing/assisted living care, or help match homeowners with renters in our HomeShare program.
