Scholarship Fund
Family and Children’s Association has been investing in the promise of higher education for the past 25 years through our Annual Scholarship Fund (Fund). The Fund helps support the aspirations of at-risk youth who wish to pursue higher education despite years of struggle with homelessness, foster care or other obstacles. Studies like “Teaching Science and Mathematics to At Risk Students (ERIC Clearinghouse on Urban Education, NY, NY) have found that a child’s ability to learn is negatively affected by family stress, particularly stress resulting from poverty and unemployment.
Building Bright Futures

A special Scholarship Fund Reception is held each year (6/21/11) as a celebration of the outstanding efforts of these talented students and the continued dedication of the Family and Children’s staff and donors. These supporters have “opened the doors of possibility” turning lifelong dreams into realities. One of the unique facets of the reception is the interaction between donors and scholarship recipients, who sit together and share in the evening’s festivities. This evening offers students a rare opportunity to mingle with professionals who may be able to guide them in their future careers. Pictured here at last year's Scholarship Fund Reception are Board Vice Chair Dick Grafer with co-honorees Dr. Fernandez and Ms. Gene Mazarra with Board Chair Patricia Pryor-Bonica.
